New to belly dance

Here at Hipline, we pride ourselves in our ability to meet the different goals of our clientele, while creating a warm and supportive environment in which to achieve them. We have designed two beginner classes, a technique class and a cardio class, that are a great starting point into your Belly Dance journey:

Belly Dance Basics
This is our beginner technique class for people who want to start learning how to execute all those cool moves. Don't worry if you think you have no coordination; we believe that everyone can learn this dance with the proper instruction and support. Our teachers are trained to break down the movement both abstractly and visually, allowing each student to absorb the technique according to their learning style and at their own pace. Class incorporates the fundamental principles; muscle isolation, memory and strengthening, posture, flexibility, musicality, and preliminary movement vocabulary.
No dance experience needed.

Shimmy Pop!™
This is our non-stop dance class for people wanting to either loose weight, build/maintain stamina and muscle, or simply have fun! We will dance our way through high-energy pop music from around the world, from Beyonce to Dalida. This class works for both the Belly Dance novice and the professional performer. The movement is basic, so you do not need any previous dance experience to enjoy this class. Just bring a towel, water and be ready to have a blast!
No dance experience needed.

Tips For New Students

1. Arrive 10 minutes early: Give yourself this time to check-in at the front desk, even if you have an online reservation, ask questions and get to know our facility and staff.

2. Dress appropriately: Wear comfortable, form-fitting workout clothing. Feel free to bring your own hip scarf! We also sell hip scarves in our Boutique.

3. Remove your shoes in the studio lobby: We have cubbies available inside the studio to keep your belongings with you.

4. Turn off your cell phone.

5. Introduce yourself: Let the teacher know you are new to Belly Dance. Notify the teacher of injuries or medical conditions. This will help the teacher to modify and enhance your experience.
